Felter and machine-embroiderer.

A degree in Graphic Design from Concordia in Montreal was to take Julia into a career in the Textile Industry as a surface pattern designer. However, teaching, and then a move to Denmark, where although she kept up her interest in textiles by spinning, weaving, and felt-making, for 18 years she made her living by working with clay. Following a year of study in Montreal, the creation of a Textile College on the Danish island where she lived gave her the opportunity to teach Exhibition Design, and Textiles. As a result, she developed her interest in making and working experimentally with non-woven fabrics from felt, to silk, and polyesters.

Today Julia lives in Vancouver, and is the owner of URBANITY in Gastown, which provides a venue for her own small production of felted scarves and accessories, as well the work of British Columbian Textile Artists.

Julia is an active member of the local Surface Design Association chapter.
